Favorite Projects

Below is a selection of work that I’m proud to highlight. Working with my respective design and production teams, I overcame unique experiential, technical, or logistical challenges in each of these projects.

Hunting for Fossils in Antarctica

A central highlight in the Field Museum’s Antarctic Dinosaurs exhibition, this fossil hunting experience takes visitors on an expedition to Mt. Kirkpatrick, where paleontologists excavate dinosaur fossils in an incredibly harsh climate.

My team and I transformed a linear narrative into an authentic and dynamic space, evoking the mountainside where the fossils are found. This design process required extensive technical and experiential prototyping from conceptual development through production.

DNA Discoveries: Shark Sex

Located adjacent to the lab where DNA from wild sharks is synthesized and studied, this exhibition invites visitors to take a look behind the scenes at what Field Museum researchers are learning about sharks’ unusual reproductive strategies.

Though the gallery footprint measures a mere 167 square feet, its impact is powerful thanks to a seamless balance of digital and physical displays that thoughtfully layers the content.

Role: Exhibition Project Manager

Materials Challenge Interactive

Materials Challenge, installed within the Biomechanics: The Machine Inside exhibition, is a touchscreen interactive that allows visitors to run an array of natural materials through a series of strength tests. Though scientists would perform these tests with instruments in a lab, the touchscreen version imparts scientific data and reference information to help visitors make informed guesses.

Thoughtfully designed as a game, the mechanical interaction is rewarding and makes for an entertaining group experience. We relied heavily on user testing with paper mock-ups and rough working prototypes to establish a UX flow that successfully balances content and play.

Glacier Formation Animations (Ice Age Interactive)

This series of motion graphic animations was produced for the Exploring Michigan gallery, opened in 2019 as part of the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History’s expansion.

Hosted on a touchscreen from which visitors can select to watch, the animations depict five types of glacial formations that shaped the land in and around the Ann Arbor region. We collaborated closely with U-M scientists to both bring diagrammatic visualizations to life and succinctly the script accompanying narratives.

Roles: Producer; Narrative Developer

Unwrap a Mummy Interactive

The Field Museum's mummy interactives, produced in partnership with Interspectral AB, allow visitors to look inside several Egyptian and Peruvian mummies using beautifully rendered CT scan data.

To achieve scientific accuracy as well as develop an intuitive, exploratory user experience, I worked closely with our scientists and technologists to iterate on the initial software, ultimately creating a custom UI template that can display and interpret other scanned objects and artifacts. This template was made available institutions worldwide to license.

Role: Project Lead

2012 BA + BFA Photography Exhibition

Each year, the graduating students within Columbia College Chicago’s renowned Photography Department hold a major showcase in downtown Chicago. As a 2012 Arts Management Master’s candidate, I had the pleasure of organizing that year’s exhibition.

In addition to guiding over 100 student artists from the submission and selection process through installation, I also edited their bios/artist statements, created all event promotional material (including the catalog), and managed the gallery logistics, from procurement to design to installation and deinstallation.
